Flowers from Diego

Personal sketch done during the pandemic. The pandemic affect my life immensely, as it did many others. After being laid off I considered giving up a career in the creative industry after eight long months of unemployment. I had lost my apartment in Oakland and relocated to Los Angeles, struggled with my mental health during quarantine. I turned to sketching to kept my skills sharp but found it provided an outlet I needed to heal and start over.

Hello there, I’m Kat Marsaro…

I am a graphic designer, illustrator, and home decor developer. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and lived in Oakland, CA for over a decade.  I am a proud Californian with a love for learning and discovery. I believe inspiration can come from anywhere and the most unlikely places. Growing up I was fascinated by the murals, graffiti art, and typography that surrounded me. I was intrigued by the narratives they told and communities and businesses they represented. I think there is magic in the design of everyday and beauty in the functional. As a designer I feel it is my duty to embark on a quest to fine the balance between stylized and communication.

In this pursue, I am constantly learning and refining my craft.  My preference to sketch ideas out on paper before committing to digital tools has help me stay curious and adventurous in my design. My overall style is simple yet bold, in order to communicate clearly the message I want to get across while simultaneously preserving the playfulness of the brief. Over the years I have learned to adapt my style which has brought the opportunities of working with Licenses and Brands. Working with numerous IPs has sharpened by eye to identify and define core themes and to preserve the integrity of their narratives.

I  work independently on personal artwork projects in my spare time and enjoy cooking for my family.  I still find that I thrive most in a team setting where I can support and produce projects with other artists and collaborators. With that being said, I am always looking for opportunities and positions for career growth.

I invite you explore my work. If you have questions or would like to discuss any projects or positions please feel free to reach out and connect on my LinkedIn and Instagram artist account.
